The Beginning of House Church

In 2008, Pastor Samuel Song and his wife Lisa were in prayer when they felt God calling them to start house churches. At that time, Solomon’s Porch was five years old and had no small group ministry—only a weekly Bible study on Wednesday nights. Though they had always desired to have small groups from the very start, they waited patiently for the Lord’s timing, as the right leadership had not yet emerged.

For nearly a year, Pastor Sam and Lisa prayed earnestly about who should be called to lead this new ministry. Through these prayers, they identified 15 individuals, asking each one to seek God’s guidance and discern if this was part of His plan for them. Most responded with a resounding “yes” to God’s call and embarked on a nine-month journey of training and preparation, meeting weekly to grow together.

During this time, Pastor Sam and Lisa modeled the vision they had for house churches, showing what they hoped would unfold each week. After a season of fasting and prayer—culminating in our annual 21-day fast—the house church ministry was officially launched in March 2008.
