Solomon's Porch

“But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:17

That’s a challenging question, isn’t it?

This October 17th is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. And while that might sound like a distant, global issue discussed in conference halls, the Bible makes it intensely personal. This isn’t a political issue; it’s a gospel issue.

Look at the life of Jesus. He was constantly, intentionally, moving toward the marginalized, the poor, and the forgotten. In Luke 4:18, at the very start of His ministry, He stood up and declared His mission from the prophet Isaiah: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.” Proclaiming good news isn’t just words; it’s action!

So, what does this mean for us, right here, right now?

It means our faith has hands and feet. This month, we are launching a church-wide response. We are asking you to be the hands and feet of Christ in a few practical ways:

1. Love our neighbour
a) Join elderly visit on 12 Oct 2:30pm to 5:30pm at St Barnabas
b) Join homeless visit on 16 Oct 6:30pm-10pm in Sai Wan

2) Learn about poverty
a) Sign up for Poverty Simulation by YWAM Tuen Mun 8 Nov Saturday afternoon (family friendly)
b) Enroll in Helping without hurting course at SP (Sundays in January/ Feb 2026)

If you are interested in getting involved, but the above times don’t work for you, let us know, we run these service opportunities in other times too.
