Situation in Hong Kong

Young adults are highly exposed to the use of drug, more than a quarter of drug users are in the age group of 21-35
Approximately 80% of drug users are male
3% of new drug users are younger than 12 years old
51% of drug users started to use drugs in the age of 12 to 17 and over 20% started between age 18 and 20
The most common reasons cited for using drugs were “avoid discomfort of its absence” 71%, “relief of boredom/ depression/ stress” 34%, “peer influence” 28%

How SP responds?

Members of SP reach out to male adults struggling with drug addictions
We go to a gospel based drug treatment centre to support people to rehabilitate
The Centre typically receives young men from their young adulthood to their 50s who want breakthroughs in their lives
We share the Word of God with them as we believe the power of the gospel is life transforming
We build relationships with them through enjoying sports and fun activities together, eating together, fellowshipping with them – providing them opportunities to enhance their skills to re-integrate into the society
